Subject: Regarding timely disbursal of wages to contract workers in electricity companies according to the minimum wage rate determined by the State Government
Sir,
As per the abovementioned subject, we keep receiving complaints of contract firms not providing timely wages to contract workers working in 33/11 KV substations and FRT in electricity companies. It has also been found that these contract firms pay wages to employed contract workers that are much less that the minimum wage rate determined by the State Government, and when workers demand the determined wage, they are threatened of being removed from service. This practice is in utter violation of labour laws. In this way, the exploitation of contract workers has been intensified. This does not paint a good picture of government institutions such as electricity distribution companies. As all these workers are working for electricity distribution companies and these companies are their principal employers, it is the duty of the principal employer to provide the determined wages and other essential facilities in a timely manner to workers.
Thus, we request you to direct all relevant field officers to ensure the timely disbursal of wages based on the minimum wage rate determined by the State Government to all contract workers in their jurisdiction. Until this is completely ensured, dues of the relevant contract firms should not be settled.
Please offer your co-operation.
