Report of meeting of Vidyut Karmchari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti, Uttar Pradesh
VIDYUT KARMCHARI SANYUKT SANGHARSH SAMITI, Uttar Pradesh
Jan Panchayats will be held across the state taking consumers along to protest against the privatization of Varanasi and Agra DISCOMS.
Massive Jan Panchayat will be held in Varanasi on 4th December and Agra on 10th December.
In the meeting of Vidyut Karmchari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti, Uttar Pradesh held on 26th November 2024 in Lucknow, it was decided that the process of privatization of Purvanchal and Dakshinanchal Discoms by publicising wrong figures in the name of losses will be strongly opposed and the movement will continue till the decision of privatization is withdrawn.
The Sangharsh Committee said that in the written agreement made on April 05, 2018 and October 06, 2020 with the then Energy Minister Shri Shrikant Sharma and Chairman of the Cabinet Sub-Committee, Finance Minister Shri Suresh Khanna, it has been clearly stated that in the energy sector in Uttar Pradesh, no privatization anywhere will be done without taking power employees in confidence.
Further it is written that all reforms will be done in the existing system of Discoms only in collaboration with the employees.
Now privatization is being carried out keeping the interests of the employees at stake, which is a flagrant violation of these agreements and a disrespect to the Cabinet Sub-Committee.
Power Corporation’s statement that service conditions of employees will not be affected is completely misleading. There are 10,411 employees working in Agra Discom and 17,189 employees in Varanasi Discom, whose posts will be abolished with privatisation. In this way, a total of 27,600 posts will be eliminated. Naturally, due to abolition of 27,600 posts, a large number of employees will face retrenchment.
To inform all the employees about the decision of the Sangharsh Committee, a meeting will be held on 29th November at all the districts, Zones and project headquarters of the state at 01.30 pm during the lunch break.
