Fight unitedly to oppose privatisation of power sector in Uttar Pradesh

Statement of Vidyut Karmchari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti, UP

Friends, it appears that the UP Power Corporation management has decided to completely privatize power distribution as well as generation and transmission. Statement given by the Power Corporation in the newspapers that up to 50% of the personnel of the Generation Corporation and Transmission will be sent on deputation to the joint venture corporations of NTPC and the Neyveli Lignite Limited. This makes it clear that there is an action plan to privatize the entire generation corporation and Transco,

It is important to mention here that there is no place for deputation in the HR policy of NTPC. Anyway, there is no other example of up to 50% deputation in any public sector undertaking in the country. When Agra city and Greater Noida were privatized in Uttar Pradesh, the private companies did not employ even a single employee of the then Electricity Board. Everyone had to come back. Now that distribution, generation and transmission are being completely privatized, there is no other option but retrenchment.

Today the Power Corporation management has sent a letter to all the Divisional Commissioners along with the Principal Secretaries of Construction Corporation, Jal Nigam Rural and Jal Nigam Urban, Irrigation Department, Public Works Department, Urban Development Department, Namami Gange Department and Rural Electrification Department to deal with the strike, there is an immediate demand for manpower. It seems that all the documents of privatization are ready and any day suddenly privatization is going to be announced.

The situation is very adverse but considering the interests of the employees, considering their families, considering the future of their children, we have no other option but to fight unitedly.
