Report by Kamgar Ekta Committee (KEC) correspondent
Under the banner of Vidyut Karamchari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti, Uttar Pradesh, electricity employees protested in front of offices in all the districts, project headquarters and capital Lucknow on 7th December against privatization. In the meetings held across the state, the electricity employees resolved that in the larger interest of the general public in Uttar Pradesh and in the interest of the employees, privatization of electricity is completely unacceptable and all efforts will be made to end this privatization in a democratic manner.
A large number of electricity workers and engineers participated in the protest meeting held in Lucknow. The meeting was addressed by the officials of the Sangharsh Samiti.
The officials said that the private company in Greater Noida is more interested in providing electricity to the industrial and commercial sector instead of providing power to farmers and domestic consumers. Naturally, the private company works for profit while the government company works for service.
The struggle committee once again said that by giving false figures of losses and creating an atmosphere of fear, efforts are being made to impose privatization, which the electricity workers will never accept.
