On 10th February, in Kudal in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra, around one thousand people including a large number of women participated in a demonstration which started from Tehsildar office. The demonstration went to the office of Superintending Engineer Mahavitaran (Maharashtra electricity distribution company). The demonstration was organised under the banner of Veej Grahak Sangharsh Samiti. It was led among others by Com. Sampat Desai of Shramik Mukti Dal and local leaders of Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress and NCP (SP).
The demonstrators militantly raised slogans like ‘Down with government doing privatisation (निजीकरण करनेवाले सरकार मुर्दाबाद), Electricity is our right, not someone’s private property (बिजली हमारे हक्क की- नहीं किसी के बाप की), Adani go away (अडानी चले जाओ), Smart meter scheme not acceptable, not acceptable (स्मार्ट मीटर परियोजना नहीं चलेगी नहीं चलेगी).
As a result of the militant demonstration the Superintending Engineer was forced to give a letter to Adani Energy Solution Ahmedabad to stop work in Kudal and Kankawali regions till further orders.
Electricity consumers and workers need to intensify and spread such actions across Maharashtra to put an end to Smart meter scheme of capitalists
