Memorandum of Bareilly Trade Unions Federation( BTUF)

(Translation of Hindi memorandum)

Bareilly Trade Unions Federation

Memorandum
17.04.2025

From District Collector, Bareilly

Hon’ble Chief Minister
Government of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow

Sir,

The decision to privatise Uttar Pradesh Purvanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam and Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam should be withdrawn in the larger interest of the public.

You are respectfully informed that a decision has been taken to privatise Purvanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam and Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam, covering 52 districts of Uttar Pradesh. We request you to withdraw this decision in the larger interest of the public.

  • Once electricity is privatised, electricity rates for common people will increase substantially.
  • The free electricity given to farmers for irrigation will be stopped after 1 April 2023.
  • Because of privatisation, around 26,000 permanent and 50,000 contract workers will lose their jobs. There will also be demotions on a large scale.
  • For government companies, electricity is a service. But for private companies, electricity is a business, and this will increase the burden on the people.

Sir, we therefore request you to withdraw the decision to privatise Purvanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam and Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam, covering 52 districts of Uttar Pradesh, in the larger interest of poor people, farmers, and every section of the society. We request that you take effective action from your position.
