This speaks of the government’s hidden agenda in consolidation of Regional Rural Banks. (Government circular attached) Thus the focus of the banks will shift from social profits to accounting profits . How can Rural banking be profitable with continuing distress in the farming sector?
This will result in induction of shareholder Directors on the Board of RRBs who will insist for accounting profits and for that loss making branches of RRBs will be closed. Manpower will be further curtailed & jobs will be outsourced further. Customers will be levied service charges rampantly. Business profile will undergo a change. Banks will lend for profit making business. Small farmers, dry land farming, crop loans, backward areas will become casualty. Thus, the very purpose of establishing RRBs will stand defeated.
This is the time when RRB employees should focus on opposition to this policy with all our strength & should mobilize all those who stand for the farming community at large.
