Report by Comrade Krushna Bhoyar, General Secretary, Maharashtra State Electricity Workers Federation
As per the decision taken by the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers, thousands of electricity workers, officers, engineers, and contract workers in Maharashtra organized demonstrations against the ongoing privatization of electricity distribution companies in Uttar Pradesh and the implementation of the four new labour codes prepared by the central government.
Demonstrations were organised in Navi Mumbai, Nashik, Sangli, Nagpur, Akola, Kolhapur, Satara, Aurangabad, Jalna, Nanded, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Wardha, Yavatmal, Amravati, Washim, Jalna, and Latur under the banner of the Maharashtra State Electricity Workers, Engineers, and Officers Action Committee.
If the Uttar Pradesh government tries to privatize the electricity distribution companies even after this protest, then electricity workers and engineers in Uttar Pradesh will go on strike from 29 June. Workers in Maharashtra will also protest in support of their strike. Thousands of electricity workers, engineers, officers, and contract workers from Maharashtra will participate in the nationwide strike to be held on 9 July.
Yours faithfully
