Bareilly Trade Federation, Inquilabi Mazdoor Kendra, Krantikari Kisan Manch, Krantikari Lok Adhikar Sangathan, Parivartankaami Chhatra Sangathan, Market Workers Association and Auto Driver Welfare Association demonstrated against electricity privatization in Bareilly on June 4 and sent a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the District Magistrate.
The demands included in the memorandum were:
- Stop the privatization of Dakshinanchal and Purvanchal Vitaran Nigam in Uttar Pradesh.
- Withdraw the anti-labour new service manual imposed on employees in the electricity department.
- Stop purchasing expensive electricity from private companies.
- Cancel the Smart Meter scheme.
- Provide 300 units of free electricity every month to all rural consumers.
- Provide free electricity to tube wells.
- Supply 18 hours of unconditional electricity to farmers’ tube wells.
- Stop the collection of connection charges, line, transformer, billing meter, disconnection and connection, all surcharges etc.
