Report of Kamgar Ekta Committee (KEC) Correspondent
The Department of Posts, Under the Ministry of Communications, Government of India, has so far refused to honour the judgements of the Jharkhand High Court and the Supreme Court of India to restore the recognition of All India Postal Employees Union, Group “C” (AIPEU- Group C).
The Department of Posts had issued an order derecognising AIPEU- Group C on 26.04.2023 on the grounds that the Union had supported the Kisan Andolan on the borders of Delhi.
In an interim order dated 12.04.2024, the Jharkhand High Court had stayed the order of the Department of Posts stating that the grounds under which the AIPEU – Group C recognition was withdrawn was not valid under law.
The Government of India appealed against this order of the Jharkhand High Court to the Supreme Court of India.
However, the Supreme Court of India by its order dated 24.09.2024 protected the interim relief granted by the Jharkhand High Court to AIPEU – Group C till the final judgement of the Jharkhand High Court.
The High Court of Jharkhand delivered its final judgement on 18.02.2025, whereby it upheld its earlier interim order of 12.04.2024 that the derecognition of AIPEU- Group C by Department of Posts was not valid under law.
It is really undemocratic and anti-worker on the part of the Department of Posts to ignore both the interim order of the Jharkhand High Court, the order of the Supreme Court of India and the final order of the Jharkhand High Court and refuse to restore the status of a recognized Union to AIPEU – Group C for more than a year and thus depriving the postal employees of Group C their right to be represented by a Union of their choice.
It is against this unlawful and undemocratic actions of the Department of Posts that AIPEU – Group C has appealed to the Supreme Court of India to provide justice. (letter enclosed)
