Report by Kamgar Ekta Committee (KEC) correspondent

At the call given by the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE), lakhs of power sector workers participated in protests throughout India on 2nd July 2025. These protests were organized to support the struggle of power employees of Uttar Pradesh against privatisation of Purvanchal and Dakshinanchal Power Distribution Corporations by the UP government. More than one lakh electricity workers took part in these protests in UP alone.

Workers held demonstrations in front of their main and sub-stations as well as in front of the zonal, circle and divisional offices of state electricity boards.  Protest actions were reported from nearly every state and union territory, from Jammu & Kashmir to Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra to Tripura.

Power sector workers have decided to escalate their struggle against electricity privatisation by central and state governments by joining the All India strike of 9th July, in which workers from all sectors are expected to participate.
