Crores of workers and working people all over the country enthusiastically participated in the All India General Strike called by trade unions and other workers organisations on 9 July 2025. The strike call was given to protest against the four anti worker labour codes, and the all sided attacks on the working class and people by the Central and state governments. In addition to the 17 point charter of demands put forward by the trade unions, the workers of different sectors also put forth their sector-specific demands.
Workers of coal mines, NDMC, Copper, Bauxite, Aluminium, Steel, Banks, LIC, GIC, Petroleum, Electricity, Postal Service, Grameen Dak Sewa, Telecom, Tea Plantations, Roadways, and state government employees of various states participated in the strike. Defence sector workers organised protest gate meetings, and rail workers carried out actions in support of the strike.
Workers in different industrial areas all over the country took out processions and rallies.
Anganwadi, Asha and mid day meal workers participated militantly in the strike action.
Kisan organisations and agricultural workers unions participated actively in the General Strike. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha organised protest actions in different parts of the country in support of the General Strike. Kisan unions in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and other states organised mass actions to express their complete support for the General Strike.
