Report by Kamgar Ekta Committee (KEC) correspondent
The Joint Action Committee of Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Employees, Engineers and Pensioners announced on 25 July its plan to launch an agitation in Shimla on 7 August if the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) management does not withdraw the chargesheet against its convenor Lokesh Thakur and co-convenor Hira Lal Verma.
The HPSEBL management has issued orders to initiate disciplinary action against the two union office bearers for “issuing press statement against HPSEBL management and the government” and “leaving Shimla without station leave”.
The order is clearly meant to silent the employees. It is an attack on the democratic rights of the employees and the union.
Shri KD Sharma, President, HPSEBL Employees Union said that if the right to protest at the workplace is not restored and the chargesheets are not withdrawn, thousands of employees, engineers, pensioners and outsourced employees would be the road on 7 August.
