Station masters in Mumbai organize dharna and submit memorandum for their demands

Message and memorandum received from All India Station Masters’ Association (AISMA)

On 11 August 2025, station masters across the country, under the banner of All India Station Masters’ Association (AISMA), organized dharnas and submitted a memorandum to the CEO of Railway Board for national demands related to the provision of night duty allowance, abolition of essentially intermittent roster, scrapping of National Pension Scheme, etc. They also submitted memorandums to Divisional Railway Managers for divisional demands. Below, we are sharing the memorandum submitted by the Mumbai Division of AISMA, which highlights the grave problems faced by station masters.

Over the years, their workload has increased a lot, especially after the removal of Cabinmen/Switchmen in end cabins, who used to split train-passing duties. Now, one person has to handle everything — train movement, public announcements, responding to failures and emergencies, and even ticket bookings at some stations! Even though posts like Deputy and Block Station Masters have been approved, they haven’t actually been filled. This means that station masters are overworked and stressed, which can affect the safety of both workers and passengers. Station masters are demanding that vacancies in not only their own cadre but also among pointsmen and shunting masters should be filled for the smooth and safe movement of trains. Additionally, they have mentioned that evening and night shifts of station masters were suspended at some stations, including Sion, Matunga, King’s Circle, Sewri, Reay Road, Sandhurst Road, and Masjid. AISMA has urged the DRM to reinstate station masters at all suburban stations for the safety of passengers.

(Translation of Hindi message of AISMA Mumbai Division)

Greetings to all friends,

On the call of the Central Executive Committee of AISMA, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart and congratulate you all for the spectacular and memorable success of the mass dharna demonstration program organized on 11 August 2025.

It was the result of the strong and splendid presence of 125+ station master comrades that the Divisional Railway Manager called the AISMA representatives to his room for talks. He listened to all the issues of our division carefully one by one and assured their prompt and appropriate resolution.

After this, all fellow AISMA representatives met the Senior Divisional Operating Manager (Coaching) and submitted a memorandum, as well as discussed various other problems of the division. All this is the result of your rock solid unity.

After this, I met the Senior Personnel Officer and submitted the memorandum. There was a detailed discussion on topics related to the Personnel Department, including transfer, promotion and MACP. He assured prompt and appropriate resolution.

On behalf of the Mumbai Division Executive Committee, I express my gratitude to all comrades who participated in this unprecedented protest with their heart and soul and hope that we will continue to get your support and co-operation in the same way in the future as well. There is strength in organization, keep faith. Long live AISMA, Long live Station Master Unity!
