Report of Vidyut Karmchari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti, UP
Fighting in Uttar Pradesh is an extremely challenging task. The Government’s privatization policy and its utterly apathetic attitude toward employees, coupled with ongoing actions of suppression and oppression, make it even tougher.
The colleagues who attended AIPEF Federal Council Lucknow meeting on 20 July, they witnessed a glimpse of UP Government attitude when Police came there and queried how you are holding AIPEF meeting without permission of Police. It took lot of time for me to explain them that it’s internal meeting being held in an auditorium and not any demonstration.
Amid all this, how do we ensure that employees gather every day in every district, in every season, how to write different Press Note on the same subject daily, and have Uttar Pradesh newspapers eagerly awaiting the movement’s story.
For me, with over 50 years of trade union experience, this is a completely unique phenomenon.
Today, in all districts, including the capital Lucknow, the 300-day movement was celebrated like a festival. A decision for satyagraha was made today: as soon as the tender is published, the power employees & engineers of Uttar Pradesh will launch a collective “jail bharo” (fill the jails) movement. With this resolve, the 300 days of the movement was celebrated like a festival.
A new history of the movement is being written in Uttar Pradesh.
Inquilab Zindabad!
