75 Years Platinum Jubilee of Telangana Electricity Employees Union (1104) celebrated with immense enthusiasm

Report of Comrade G. Saibabu, General Secretary, Telangana Electricity Employees Union (1104) edited by Kamgar Ekta Committee team

The Platinum Jubilee convention of the Telangana Electricity Employees Union (1104), the oldest and most powerful union in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states, affiliated with the All India Federation of Electricity Employees, was held on January 6, 2026 in Hyderabad. The convention was attended by Comrade Mohan Sharma, General Secretary, All India Federation of Electricity Employees, Comrade Krishna Bhoyar, General Secretary, Maharashtra State Electricity Workers Federation.

Comrade G. Saibabu, General Secretary, gave a detailed account of the organization’s 75-year journey. He narrated the history of what the organization has achieved for the power sector workers in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over the past 75 years.

A detailed memorandum of demands, outlining the current problems faced by power sector workers and contract workers in Telangana was presented to Dr. G. Vivek Venkat Swamy Guru, Minister (Labour, Employment Training, Factories, Mines and Geology) and the Telangana government was urged to resolve them urgently. Shri V. Venkateswarlu (President) of the Telangana Electricity Employees Union also provided information about the organization and requested the minister to address the issues of the power sector workers.

Comrade Krishna Bhoyar, addressing the gathering, said that keeping the labor movement alive in the power industry for 75 years is a great achievement by the electricity worker leaders of Telangana. Even though the direction of the labor movement has changed currently, the electricity workers’ movement in Telangana remains strong. He gave detailed information about the current situation of the power industry in the country. He appealed to the electricity workers, engineers, officers, and contract workers across the country to be prepared for a struggle against the proposed Electricity Amendment Bill 2025.

Comrade Mohan Sharma saluted the leadership of the electricity workers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. For 75 years, they have kept the movement strong by resolving the issues of electricity workers, and on behalf of the All India Federation of Electricity Employees and the All India Trade Union Congress, he congratulated them. While the central government is trying to dismantle the organized sector’s labor movement, this grand and magnificent ceremony has shown the government the strength of the red flag. Currently, the central government has scrapped the labor laws created through struggles of national-level labor organizations like the All India Trade Union Congress and others. By creating four new labor codes, they have removed the legal protection available to workers in both the organized and unorganized sectors. The central government is doing all this for the benefit of private capitalists.

He said there is a need for electricity workers across the country to raise their voices against this. The central government is preparing to introduce and pass the proposed Electricity Amendment Bill 2025. This is a danger signal for the public electricity industry in the country. The central government has proposed this Bill to hand over profitable sectors to private capitalists. A decision has been taken to fight against this law under the leadership of the National Coordination Committee of Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE). The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, which leads the farmers of the country, and ten central trade unions will participate in this movement. A decision has been taken to march to Jantar Mantar and Parliament House in Delhi on March 18th. He appealed to the electricity employees, engineers, officers, and contract workers of Telangana to participate in the movement. After paying tribute to the departed electricity worker leaders, the ceremony concluded with resounding slogans.
