Power sector employees reiterate their opposition to the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025 as it is meant to privatise power distribution

 

Report of the meeting with Mr. Pankaj Agarwal, Power Secretary, Government of India (Ministry of Power) by Comrade Krishna Bhoyar, General Secretary, Maharashtra State Electricity Workers Federation

 

The meeting, convened by the Hon’ble Central Power Secretary, Mr. Pankaj Agarwal, on January 12, 2026, was attended by the representatives of the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE), including Shailendra Dubey, Mohan Sharma, Sudeep Dutta, Samar Sinha, Krishna Bhoyar, Sanjay Singh, K. Ratnakar Rao, Jitendra Singh, Mukesh Sharma, Mohammad Shamim Ullah, Padamjit Singh, and representatives from over 30 associations and unions across the country were also present.

Maharashtra electricity employees were represented by Comrade Mohan Sharma, General Secretary, All India Federation of Electricity Employees, Comrade Krishna Bhoyar, General Secretary, Maharashtra State Electricity Workers Federation, Mr. Laxman Rathod, President, Subordinate Engineer Association, Mr. Dinesh Ladkat, President, and Mr. Sanjay Khade, General Secretary, MSEB Officers Association.

The Government of India discussed the proposed Electricity Act-2025 with all the associations. The Central Power Secretary initially gave a detailed explanation of the proposed Electricity Act-2025 through a presentation. Representatives from across the country opposed the proposed law, presenting the perspective of electricity consumers and employees.

Representatives from the organizations of all three power companies in Maharashtra, Comrade Krishna Bhoyar and Mr. Dinesh Ladkat, strongly opposed the proposed Electricity Bill 2025, presented the situation of the power industry in Maharashtra to the Central Power Secretary and made suggestions.
