Electricity engineers along with other employees to serve notice for All-India strike on 12 February to oppose Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025 and National Electricity Policy 2026 meant to privatise power distribution

Message of All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) to its state constituents

Both the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the National Electricity Policy, 2026 are comprehensive blueprints for the complete privatisation of the power sector. They are meant to benefit big capitalists like Tatas, Adanis, etc at the cost of electricity workers, peasants and other toilers. Power sector workers deserve support of all the working people of the country.

The Budget Session of Parliament is scheduled to commence from January 28. The Union Budget will be presented on February 01. There is a serious apprehension that during this very Budget Session, the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2025 will be tabled and an attempt will be made to push it through Parliament.

The draft National Electricity Policy, 2026 has been issued precisely with this objective. The Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the National Electricity Policy, 2026 are virtually identical documents. Both are comprehensive blueprints for the complete privatisation of the power sector.

In accordance with the decisions taken in the meeting of the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers, and following detailed deliberations in the Federal Council meeting of the All India Power Engineers Federation held in Kolkata, the National Coordination Committee and AIPEF have served a Strike / Work Boycott Notice to the Union Power Minister for February 12.

The notice clearly warns that on the very day the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2025 is tabled in Parliament and any attempt is made to get it passed, power employees and engineers across all States and Union Territories will walk out of their workplaces, power stations and offices, and launch massive protest demonstrations across the country.

All State Constituents of Power Engineers’ Association are requested to ensure that similar strike/work boycott notices are served at the State level, in coordination with the Joint Action Committees, positively by January 28. For this purpose, it is essential that Joint Action Committee meetings be convened in all States immediately.
