The below circular highlights that bank workers’ participation in the 12 February general strike majorly affected banking operations. Notably, workers from private banks such as Karnataka Bank Ltd. and Federal Bank also participated. In Mumbai, workers organized a massive morcha demanding the repeal of the four labour codes and opposing the proposed privatisation of IDBI Bank as well as the steps taken by the government to increase foreign investment in public and private banks. The circular stresses that workers did not want to inconvenience customers by the strike; however, the present system leaves them with no alternative. Workers have no option but to strike in order to raise their legitimate demands and protect their hard-won rights.
