Congress government detains Bengaluru workers participating in the all-India general strike

Report of Kamgar Ekta Committee (KEC)

On 12 February, hundreds of workers gathered at Town Hall, Bengaluru, for demonstration as part of the all-India general strike. The state government headed by the Congress party ordered brutal suppression of the peacefully demonstrating workers. Hundreds of IT employees, along with leaders of the Karnataka IT/ITeS Employees Union (KITU), and various Central Trade Unions were arrested. Workers were forcibly taken away to the CAR police grounds, where they continued their protest.

On the one hand, the Congress party is making a big show of opposing the labour codes in the parliament. While on the other, its hostility towards working-class struggles and its subservience to the interests of the capitalist class are being exposed in the states where the Congress party has formed the government. Brutal suppression of workers in Karnataka is one more example that highlights the real nature and role of the Congress party.

The working class can never rely on any such political parties of the capitalist class.
