Workers in Tamil Nadu militantly participate in the All India 12 February strike

Workers in Tamil Nadu took part in large numbers in the All India General Strike.

In Chennai workers protested at Pallavaram, Vimco Nagar, Anna Salai, Ambatur and many other places. In Chengelpet, Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur, Trichy, Thanjavur, Nagercoil, Coimbatore, Selam, Thirupoor, Kovilpatti and Toothukudi, demonstrations and Rail Roko protests were held.

In Chengelpet, workers of Endo India Formulation, Tamcal Muligai Pannai, Alkimars Pvt. Ltd., Valeth Hitech, Unilink, SFC, AAM, Quality, Lingan, Yazaki, JBM, NEMAK, El Forge, Perpetti Vamela, Balmer Lawrie, ComStar BMW, Chekpoint, Woory Automotive, Virgo Polymer India and many other factories took part in the strike.

Workers of Hyundai, Renault Nissan, Wipro, Royal Enfield, Sanmina, BinStar, Simpson and many other large scale industrial units went in a rally to the Assistant Labour Commissioner of Kanchipuram in Sriperumbudhur, and demanded the repeal of the anti-worker labour codes.

Workers of State Transport, Electricity, Tasmac, Banks, Insurance companies, Tele-communications, participated in the strike. Workers of Ashok Leyland, Simpsons, MRF and other private companies also took part in the strike. Textile and garment workers, leather workers, power loom workers, handloom workers, anganwadi and Asha scheme workers, Kalpakkam Nuclear Power Plant workers, Neyveli Lignite Corporation workers, and BHEL workers took part in the protest agitations and demonstrations. Gig workers, Corporation, Panchayat and Grama Panchayat workers, construction workers, auto and taxi workers, and head load workers also took part.

Over 80 lakh workers took part in the All India General Strike in Tamil Nadu. Workers’ Unity Movement (WUM) actively worked for the success of the strike and brought out a leaflet calling on the workers to participate militantly in the All India Strike.
