Indian Overseas Bank officers will go on strike on 2 March 2026 to protest against management’s coercive practices

Report of Kamgar Ekta Committee (KEC) correspondent

On 9 February 2026, Indian Overseas Bank Officer’s Association (IOBOA) sent a notice of strike to the Managing Director of Indian Overseas Bank (IOB). The notice, which has been served as per established legal process, mentions that IOBOA members will observe a one-day strike from the midnight of 1 March 2026 to the midnight of 2 March. The strike notice explains the demands, which include:

  • Restoration of humane working hours and dignity
  • Withdraw regressive “probation on promotion clause”
  • Ensure adequate staff recruitment
  • Opposition to coercive surveillance and rating mechanisms
  • Opposition to arbitrary “leave denial” and “loss of pay”
  • Opposition to unjust salary recoveries and penalties

The strike letter elaborates on the various actions that IOBOA members will carry out:

  • Social Media Campaign
  • Withdrawal of extra-cooperation
  • Quitting official WhatsApp groups
  • Demonstrations and dharnas across regional centers

In response, immediately on the day after the strike notice was served, i.e., on 10 February, the bank management arbitrarily locked the office premises of IOBOA, thereby denying entry to association office staff, office bearers, and members. The IOBOA has been operating from this office since many decades. The action by the management is very clearly an attempt to scuttle the strike action. This was also immediately denounced by IOBOA.

Kamgar Ekta Committee calls upon all AIFAP members to denounce this action by IOB management and to support the just struggle of IOB workers.

All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC) issued a letter dated 20 February, calling upon all its members to stand in solidarity with IOB workers (see the PDF below).

The support letter explains the unjust behavior of the IOB management. It also explains that the management is behaving unjustly with the workers although it is actually because of workers’ untiring efforts that the IOB’s performance has improved drastically.
