Railway employees and workers, unite for your self-respect and rights!

Call of Kamgar Ekta Committee (KEC), 24 March 2026

Brothers and sisters,

As all railway workers know, just a few days ago, 72 loco pilots from the Mumbai Division of Central Railway wrote a joint letter seeking voluntary retirement (VRS). They took this step because of extremely arduous working conditions, frequent interference and harassment by higher officials, lack of hygiene and essential amenities in running rooms and rest areas, and the immense mental stress resulting from all these factors. In today’s times—when securing a permanent job has become nearly impossible—we can well understand what a difficult decision it must have been for the workers to seek VRS from Indian Railways.

Kamgar Ekta Committee, along with All India Loco Running Staff Association (AILRSA) and other railway workers’ organizations, has sent a joint letter to the General Manager demanding that all issues concerning loco pilots and all other railway workers be resolved immediately.

On 2 March 2026, reports of the utterly shameful conduct of railway officials toward a loco pilot from the Lucknow Division circulated widely in newspapers and on digital media platforms. The loco pilot had requested “sick leave” following a surgery for piles—this, apparently, was his grave offense! When he spoke to the press about the mistreatment he had endured, he was suspended. However, following the powerful and united protest staged by AILRSA and its affiliates, the suspension was revoked.

Brothers and sisters,

We all know that these two incidents are merely representative. Whether they are employees working in the Railway Accounts Department, loco pilots, station managers, train managers, signal and telecom staff, track maintainers, ticket checkers, booking clerks, or workers employed in railway workshops, factories, or any other railway department—all are compelled to confront, on a daily basis, the arbitrariness of certain high-ranking railway officials, the inhumane burden of work resulting from a massive number of vacancies, and extremely unsafe working conditions. Therefore, it has become imperative that all railway workers, setting aside organizational divisions, raise a united voice of unwavering solidarity against all these issues. They must put into actual practice the principle: An attack on one is an attack on all—an attack on one demands the united resistance of all. Leaders across the country never fail to proclaim that Railway employees and workers constitute the backbone of the nations economy. Now the time has come for railway employees and workers to demonstrate to them the true power of the unity of this very backbone!
