Andhra Pradesh electricity employees want state government to clarify its stand on the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2022

Report received from Shri B. Ramalinga Reddy

What is the attitude of the state government on the power sector privatization bill?

AITUC Secretary General Com. G Obulesu demanded that the state government state its position on the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2022, introduced in the parliament by the central government.

On the occasion, they said that if the Bill introduced by the central government is passed and the power companies are privatized, the main losers will be the state government. He said the Bill would allow corporates to cheaply seize the assets of state-owned power companies and networks worth lakhs of crores.

He said that corporates would place a heavy burden on the people and the power of controlling electricity prices would go from the state government to the corporates and the center. He said that corporates would go ahead with the intention of making high profits, looking down on the poor people in the state; supporting the poor people would become a heavy burden on the state government and the managing the publicly owned power sector would be a major challenge for the state government.

Similarly, many power sector employees working in the state-owned companies have appealed to the state government to make an immediate statement assuring the safety of their services about which they are concerned.

He said the state should be ready for any number of movements and sacrifices to save the public sector power companies.
