Spree of privatisations of Power Sector

Statement of Vidyut Karmchari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti, UP

An agreement has been signed to handover 2320 MW Chhabra Thermal Power Station in Rajasthan to NTPC in the form of a joint venture company.

There is going to be an agreement to hand over 2000 MW Jhalawar Thermal Power Station to Coal India Limited in the form of another joint venture. There will be a little generation left in Kota. In this way, the Power Generation Corporation of Rajasthan is going to be completely destroyed.

In Rajasthan, the process of handing over thousands of 33 KV power distribution sub-stations to the private sector is underway. In a way, this is the process of privatization of the entire distribution sector in Rajasthan.

Now, how can Uttar Pradesh remain behind? In Uttar Pradesh, the decision to privatize Purvanchal and Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam in one stroke has been announced, but an internal decision has been taken that the entire distribution, transmission and generation will be privatized.

There is silence in Rajasthan, the engineers’ Association is almost inactive. There is complete silence. But, in Uttar Pradesh, employees are preparing for struggle. Continuous meetings are being held. But after the strike of March 2023, the way in which the agreement was denied and the trust was betrayed and agreement was refused to be accepted, there is fear among the employees and engineers.
Till now no order for privatization has been issued and no RFP document has been issued. But the Chairman has given threat through press that anyone who will opposes privatization will be dismissed from service. Preparations are being made for privatization by spreading terror and repression in Uttar Pradesh.

This is the time when the entire country should show its solidarity with the fight of Uttar Pradesh.
