If engineers are punished in the name of privatization, there will be a sharp reaction to it
Power Corporation management is engaged in carrying out the process of privatization in connivance with private houses
Anger spread among electricity workers due to transfer of engineers in Purvanchal Discom on administrative basis
State-wide protest continues against privatization
Vidyut Karamchari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti, UP has alleged that Power Corporation management and the Chairman are engaged in privatizing electricity of 42 districts for a pittance in connivance with private houses. Sangharsh Samiti has warned that if engineers are unnecessarily punished in the name of privatization, there will be a sharp reaction to it. There is anger among the electricity workers regarding the transfer of engineers on administrative grounds by the Managing Director of Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam. Today, for the 190th consecutive day, the state-wide protest of the electricity workers continued.
Officers of Vidyut Karamchari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti, UP, Sanjay Singh Chauhan, Jitendra Singh Gurjar, Girish Pandey, Mahendra Rai, P.K. Dixit, Suhail Abid, Chandra Bhushan Upadhyay, Vivek Singh, R.Y. Shukla, Chhotelal Dixit, R.B. Singh, Mohd. Wasim, Mayashankar Tiwari, Ramcharan Singh, Shrichand, Sarju Trivedi, Yogendra Kumar, A.K. Shrivastava, Devendra Pandey, K.S. Rawat, Ram Niwas Tyagi, Prem Nath Rai, Shashikant Shrivastava, Mohd. Ilyas, Rafiq Ahmed, P.S. Bajpai, G.P. Singh, Ram Sahare Verma, Vishambar Singh have alleged in a statement issued here today that the Power Corporation top management and the Chairman are in collusion with private houses. In this regard, Grant Thornton, who had given a false affidavit, has been given a clean chit by the Director Finance Nidhi Narang. It is being discussed that Director Finance Nidhi Narang is acting as a bridge in collusion between the Chairman of Power Corporation and corporate houses. The Managing Director of a big corporate house has given a statement that the RFP document prepared for the privatization of Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam and Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam has been prepared after discussing with him and his company is excited to submit the tender for privatization. The Sangharsh Samiti said that the Power Corporation management has revised the ARR submitted to the Regulatory Commission to show increased losses. The Sangharsh Samiti said that under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath ji, AT&C losses have come down from 41 percent in the year 2017 to 16.5 percent in the year 2024. But in the ARR given by the Power Corporation for 2025-26, the losses of Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam have been increased from 18.49 percent in 2024-25 to 36.08 percent and the losses of Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam have been increased from 18.97 percent in 2024-25 to 28.48 percent in 2025-26. The question is on what basis the increased losses have been shown after spending thousands of crores of rupees on system improvement under the RDSS scheme. It is clear that the management loss is being shown in an exaggerated manner to benefit private houses, which should be investigated at a high level. Similarly, a conspiracy is being hatched to sell assets worth lakhs of crores of rupees to private houses for a pittance. All the land of 42 districts is being prepared to be given to private houses on a lease of just Rs 1. The Sangharsh Samiti will reveal the scams happening behind privatization in a phased manner.
The Sangharsh Samiti said that the Chairman of the Power Corporation yesterday threatened that the engineers who are indisciplined should be transferred from the urban area and a list of such engineers who are to be transferred on administrative grounds should be sent before 15 June. The Sangharsh Samiti said that the Chairman of the Power Corporation, who is frustrated by the agitation going on for the last 6 months against privatization, has resorted to harassment. He is constantly intimidating and threatening the engineers through video conferencing. The question is that the electricity workers who are peacefully agitating against privatization and are attending to consumer services on top priority, are guilty of what indiscipline for which the Chairman is ordering them to be transferred out of the urban area. In Varanasi, 6 engineers have been transferred with a view to punish them by the Managing Director of Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam. The Sangharsh Samiti warned that if all these transfers are not cancelled, the chargesheets given to the engineers are not withdrawn and any attempt is made to punish any engineer on this basis, then there will be a statewide movement against it, the entire responsibility of which will be of the Chairman of the Power Corporation.
Today, for the 190th consecutive day, the electricity workers continued the statewide protest. Today, protests were mainly held in Varanasi, Agra, Meerut, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Mirzapur, Azamgarh, Basti, Aligarh, Mathura, Etah, Jhansi, Banda, Bareilly, Devipatan, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Bulandshahr, Noida, Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Harduaganj, Jawaharpur, Pariksha, Panki, Obra, Pipri and Anapara.
