Letter of Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Shri A.A. Rahim to Minister of Railways
In the below letter, the honorable MP has strongly condemned the Railway Board’s decision to re-engage retired staff on a daily basis for the highly sensitive posts of Loco Pilots, Assistant Loco Pilots, and Train Managers. He has rightly pointed out that this move jeopardizes the safety of crores of railway passengers, demanding that Indian Railways should urgently complete recruitment in all sanctioned posts that are vacant.
This raises important questions. Except for a very few notable exceptions, why are other MPs of both the houses and also MLAs of all the state assemblies not raising this issue even once? Does this not mean that none of them are bothered about passenger and railway workers’ safety and well-being? If such important life and death issues are not the concern of any of the elected houses, then is it wrong to conclude that all these assemblies are just talk shops to fool the working people?
