Report of the seminar on “Let Us Protect the Puducherry Electricity Department” by Shri P. Velmurugan, General Secretary, Puducherry Electricity Department Anti-Privatization and Anti-Corporatization Struggle Committee
Dear comrades, greetings to all.
On behalf of the Puducherry Electricity Department Anti-Privatization and Anti-Corporatization Struggle Committee, a seminar titled “Let Us Protect the Puducherry Electricity Department” was held on 06-09-2025 morning at the Federation Office of Puducherry Government Employees’ Associations.
Representatives of engineers and workers’ unions from the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, who are part of the National Coordination Committee, participated in this seminar.
During the event, Tamil Nadu electricity union leaders shared their views on the measures to be taken by the Puducherry Anti-Privatization Struggle Committee. Based on that, we inform you of the preparatory actions decided for the Puducherry Electricity Department struggle:
Decisions Taken:
- Submit petitions to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Puducherry, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, and all political party leaders, requesting them to take steps to protect the Electricity Department by cancelling the illegally extended tender and halting privatization moves.
- Unite all unions within the Puducherry Electricity Department for joint consultations and to decide the next course of action.
- Visit employees section-wise and hold discussions with them about the privatization issue.
- Organize street-corner campaigns to explain to the public the dangers of privatization, create awareness, and distribute pamphlets.
- Conduct protest demonstrations and rallies in front of all four regional offices — Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe, and Yanam.
Therefore, we appeal to all engineers and worker comrades to actively participate in every struggle organized by the Puducherry Anti-Privatization Struggle Committee, and to unite in order to protect the Puducherry Electricity Department.
On behalf of the Puducherry electricity employees and engineers, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the leaders from Tamil Nadu who participated in this event.
We sincerely thank all comrades who, at short notice, attended yesterday’s seminar on behalf of the Puducherry Electricity Department Anti-Privatization Struggle Committee.
Note:
If called upon for support, engineers and workers from electricity boards of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and other states — who are part of the National Coordination Committee — are ready to join our struggle.
They also assured during yesterday’s seminar that they are prepared to provide all legal guidance and consultation for the ongoing legal battle.
