Farmers’ organisations and trade unions join hands with Power employees to oppose power privatisation and Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025:

A comprehensive struggle strategy will be announced at the Delhi meeting on 14 December.

A joint struggle has been agreed upon between power employees’ organisations, farmers’ organisations, and all-India trade unions against the ongoing privatisation process of electricity in Uttar Pradesh and other states, as well as against the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025. A meeting has been called in Delhi on 14 December to finalise the strategy for this joint struggle and to announce the programmes of the movement.

Shailendra Dubey, Chairman of the All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF), stated here today that farmers’ organisations and all-India trade unions have agreed that the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025 has been introduced to fully privatise the entire power sector, and a nationwide movement to it is absolutely essential. In this regard, the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE) has called a meeting in Delhi on 14 December.

He informed that all major national office-bearers of farmers’ organisations under the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, national office-bearers of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, and national office-bearers of all-India trade unions have been contacted and invitation letters have been sent to them.

Shailendra Dubey further said that power employees and engineers in Uttar Pradesh have been continuously fighting and taking to the streets for almost a year against the privatisation of Purvanchal and Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam.

Meanwhile, the Government of India has released the draft of the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025 to privatise the entire energy sector of the country. Additionally, as per the decision taken in the Group of Ministers’ meeting, states are being pressurised that the central government will provide financial assistance only if the states accept one of the three privatisation options.

He said that seeing all these privatisation efforts of the central and state governments, farmers’ and workers’ organisations have also joined electricity employees across the country in opposing power privatisation, and the outline of a nationwide movement will be announced on 14 December.
