Letter by National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR) to the Chairman of Railway Board
Indian Railway has been resorting to recruitment of untrained people in the safety categories, thus endangering the safety of passengers and rail workers. Safety of rail operations also depends on the work of a pointsman. Recruitment on contract for such jobs cannot be accepted. Indian Railways has alarmingly high vacant positions in critical categories and has been not been filling them with permanent workers. This has tremendously increased the workload on present workforce and causing serious stress and health problems. This further endangers the safety of rail workers and passengers.
