Com. Harbhajan Singh Sidhu (General Secretary, Hind Mazdoor Sabha) spoke at the National Convention of Workers organised by the Joint Platform of Central Trade Unions and Sectoral Federations/Associations in Delhi on 9 January 2026.
Com. Sidhu stressed that the government is making policies in favour of the capitalists. Attacks are being launched on both workers and farmers. He said that during the kisan andolan, the government made every attempt to stop and malign the protesting farmers. Farmers demanded repeal of farm laws, but worse laws, such as the Seed Bill, are being introduced now. Further, there have been increasing attacks on workers through privatisation, 100% FDI in insurance, and very high levels of contractualisation and job insecurity. Infrastructure and institutions built using public money are being sold off for private profit. Com. Sidhu called on workers to unitedly oppose these attacks and participate in large numbers in the strike on 12 February!
