Joint Press Release of the platform of Central Trade Unions and Samyukt Kisan Morcha
More than 30 crore people participated in the All India strike and demonstrations on 12 February for the scrapping of four labour codes and other demands yet the government has not paid any heed. It is time to ask some basic questions. What kind of democracy it is in which voice of crores of people has no value? How can the workers’ right to agitate for their demands be crushed with the help of police? Why are anti-worker anti-kisan free trade agreements signed? Is it the rule of the people or is it the rule of big capitalists who dictate to the government what to do?

Press Release
The following statement was issued to the media by the joint front of the platform of Central Trade Unions and the Samyukta Kisan Morcha on 2nd March 2026.
Mazdoor Kisan Sansad on 9th March at Jantar Mantar
To announce actions to intensify struggles
The joint front of the platform of Central Trade Unions, Independent Sectoral Federations/Associations and the Samyukta Kisan Morcha in their joint meeting to review 12th February Nationwide General Strike and mass mobilisations and to plan for future course of actions has congratulated the workers, farmers and other sections of the society for making this strike as one of the biggest action in the recent time with participation of more than 30 crore people with actions in about 600 districts and programmes at more than hundred thousand places. The meeting decided to hold Mazdoor Kisan Sansad on 9th March at Jantar Mantar with further announcements of programmes to intensify their struggles on the issues of the agitations.
The meeting took serious note of the upsurge in the recent struggles of the contract workers in Barauni refinery in Bihar, in Panipat refinery in Haryana and in Larsen and Toubro company in Surat, Gujrat and expressed their solidarity. These contract workers have been toiling for 12 hours work day without proper wages and overtime, inadequate safety measures at workplace, issues of holidays, social security and demanding regularisation etc. The four labour codes are to legalise all the violations in the existing labour laws which the Government is declaring to be repealed once the new codes are implemented.
The meeting also condemned in strong terms the uncalled for and undemocratic steps of the JNU administration against the elected office bearers of JNU students’ union and other students for raising their genuine grievances exercising their democratic rights of protests. The cases filed against some of them with motive to ruin their studies. It was shocking that despite granting bail, the magistrate asked for verification of addresses and refused for their release. They are students, who are admitted only when their addresses are verified and known to the university.
The meeting also condemned the incident in Punjab where activists of Bharatiya Kisan Union Ekta (Ugrahan) were implicated in false cases and jailed in order to suppress the democratic movements for farmer’s rights.
