Employees of Western Railway workshop demand urgent attention to dilapidated infrastructure, unsafe working conditions and large number of vacancies

Report received from Parel & Mahalaxmi Workshop branch of Western Railway Employees Union

On 6^th March 2026, during the inspection of General Manager of Western Railway Pradeep Kumar Ji at Parel workshop, the President of Western Railway Employees Union (WREU) Com. Uday Khot, Branch Secretary Com. Prafull Jamsandekar, Zonal Vice President Com. Syed Zeeshan Hussain Sahib and other office bearers of the union gave a memorandum (Attached) to the General Manager and discussed about the solution of various problems of the workshop.

Parel workshop carries out periodic overhaul of coaches of passenger trains. It was established more than hundred years back but the railway administration has been neglecting it.

The WREU has demanded that immediate attention be paid to improve its infrastructure; unsafe equipment must be replaced; large number of vacancies (nearly 36%) must be urgently filled in; and facilities for staff must be improved.
