Report by Kamgar Ekata Committee correspondent based on inputs received from Engineer Rahul Channa of Uttaranchal Power Engineers Association

Engineers of Uttarakhand power sector have started their agitation from 24th June agitating against the unjust policy being pursued by the management of Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited. As a token of protest, they held gate meetings across the state of Uttarakhand and also performed their duty tying black bands as a mark of protest.
The General Secretary of Uttaranchal Power Engineers Association told that the promotion process for engineers has been deliberately kept in abeyance while at the same time retiring engineers are being given extension of service. Due to such service extensions to retiring employees, some currently active employees will be deprived of promotion opportunities and will retire in their current grade only, he pointed out.
Uttaranchal Power Engineers Association is demanding that such extensions beyond 30th June should not be given else they will be forced to go intensify their agitation. He also pointed out that this is being done in spite of the fact that, more than 333 days ago in a meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary on 26th July 2025, the corporation had agreed to expedite the promotions.
It is important to note that such policies of delaying / denying promotion opportunities, delaying recruitment for years together for filling up of vacancies, etc. are being followed by state power corporations across the country. This is being done to threaten and weaken the ever-increasing opposition by electricity workers to privatization of power sector. All power sector workers must unitedly demand immediate stoppage of such policies.
