On 9 August, thousands of workers across the country participated in protests and demonstrations against the privatisation and other anti-people policies of the government on the call of central trade unions. One such demonstration was organised at Ghari check in Ambikapur, Surguja district, Chhattisgarh, where hundreds of workers participated despite the heavy rains.
Workers from coal, BSNL, railway, insurance and bank unions, as well as workers and government employees from organisations such as the Third Grade Government Employees Union Chhattisgarh, Progressive Pensioners Welfare Association, United Forum of Trade Unions Sarguja and Chhattisgarh Kisan Sabha took part in the demonstration. They demanded a ban on the privatisation of public sector industries and resources. They also demanded the repeal of the three farm laws and cancellation of all four anti-worker labour codes.
Leaders of the participating unions and organisations condemned the policies of privatisation and liberalisation that allow the sale of public resources and services to big capitalists for their private profit.
Further, the workers demanded the restoration of the old pension scheme and the free provision of protective equipment and risk allowance to healthcare workers.
This meeting again demonstrated that people will not tolerate the attacks of the government and will continue to struggle against anti-worker, anti-farmer and anti-people policies!
