Victory of postal workers – High Court stays the unjust derecognition of their unions by the Department of Posts

Report of KEC Correspondent

As reported on the website of NFPE, in the Postal Crusader of May 5, 2024, the Jharkhand High Court, in its order of 12.04.2024, has stayed the order of the Department of Posts dated 26.04.2023, derecognising National Federation of Postal Employees (NFPE) and its affiliate union, All India Postal Employees Union (AIPEU) Group C.

NFPE is the largest representative federation of postal workers for decades and its affiliates including AIPEU (Group C) represent the largest number of postal employees across the country.

The Department of Post had issued order of derecognition of the NFPE and AIPEU Group C as unions on 26 April 2023 by alleging that they had supported Kisan andolan for which the donation of Rs 50,000 was made to the Centre of Trade Unions (CITU).

The judgement of the Jharkhand High Court clearly states that the grounds on which AIPEU recognition was withdrawn are not valid under law.

The letter of the Secretary General, NFPE and the Judgement of Jharkhand High Court are given below.
