Admitted to ICU in critical condition
Report received from Indian Railway Signal & Telecom Maintainers Union (IRSTMU)
Two signal staff were badly burnt by OHE (over-head equipment) on 15th May afternoon at Shahibaug cabin in Ahmedabad division. Immediately after the incident, both the employees were taken to Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad from where on the request of their family members to the Railway Administration, they were referred to Sal Hospital where they have been admitted to ICU in critical condition.
The matter is completely of negligence of the administration. The work of shifting signal S-12 was being done without taking OHE block, due to which both the signal employees go affected by the OHE. Despite repeated requests of the employees, the officer in charge pressurized them to work without taking the OHE block, due to which two signal employees fell victim to OHE. Even the rope was broken but the employees’ concerns were ignored and the lives of the employees were put at risk relying on the broken rope.
Even before this, just a few days ago, two employees had been injured due to a broken rope, but still the administration is putting the lives of the employees at stake.
Getting work done without a block has become a common thing. For Indian Railways, punctuality of trains has now become more important than the safety of the employees!
Even IOD is not given to injured employees and employees are harassed.
