The National Coordination Committee of SKM met at Kisan Bhavan, Chandigarh today. The meeting resolved to convene the General Body meeting of SKM on 15th October 2024 at New Delhi to declare the intensification of the struggle across India demanding that the Union Government implement MSP@C2+50% with guaranteed procurment, comprehensive loan waiver for farmers and agricultural workers, end privatisation of the electricity sector, fully revamp the crop insurance scheme, begin adequate pension for poor and middle peasants and agricultural workers, among other demands.
The meeting condemned the Digital Agricultural Mission as declared by the Modi Government aimed at promoting corporatisation of agricultural research, production and marketing to aid agribusinesses and against the interests of farmers. SKM demands strict action against shortages and black marketing of fertilisers, seeds and pesticides.
SKM called upon the people of Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Maharashtra and Jharkhand to expose, oppose and punish the BJP in the assembly elections. SKM appealed to the people of Haryana to oust BJP-led State Government to ensure construction of a suitable Memorial for the 736 martyrs of the historic and victorious year-long farmers struggle against the 3 Farm Laws.
SKM will support the Central Trade Unions call on 23rd September 2024 to observe Black Day against the implementation of the 4 Labour Codes, privatisation of the Public Sector, contractualisation of employment and ban on recruitment policy.
SKM will observe 28th September 2024, the birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh as Anti- Corporate Day across the country.
3rd October 2024, the Lakhimpur Kheri massacre of farmers day, will be observed as Martyrs Day across the country. Farmers will pay homage to martyrs and light candles in villages.
The SKM meeting condemned the arrest of journalist Malvinder Singh Mali in Patiala for criticizing the government and demanded his release.
A presidium comprising Joginder Singh Ugrahan, Purushottam Sharma, Satyawan, Raminder Singh Patiala and Sunilam conducted the meeting. 34 members participated.
