Maharashtra State Bank Employees Federation and All India Bank Employees Association extend their support to fight against privatization of electricity distribution in Uttar Pradesh and Chandigarh and demand withdrawal of the decision of privatization

Letter by Maharashtra State Bank Employees Federation to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh

18th December, 2024

MSBEF LETTER. NO. 133/2024

To,
The Honorable Chief Minister
Uttar Pradesh.

Dear Sir,

Sub: – PRIVATISATION OF UTTAR PRADESH, PURVANCHAL AND DAKSHINANCHHAL VIDYUT VITARAN NIGAM.

We, the Maharashtra State Bank Employees Federation (MSBEF) and the All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA), stand in solidarity with the power sector workers and the people of Uttar Pradesh who are opposing the decision of the Uttar Pradesh State Government to privatize the two big electricity distribution companies of Uttar Pradesh, Purvanchal and Dakshinanchhal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam. We also denounce the Chandigarh government’s decision to privatize electricity distribution in Chandigarh. Various People’s organizations throughout Uttar Pradesh have also expressed strong opposition to the Uttar Pradesh government’s decision through a series of meetings and demonstrations.

MSBEF and AIBEA have consistently opposed the privatization of public sector banks and other public sector enterprises and government departments. We firmly believe that all essential services like electricity should be provided by the government at affordable prices, without the motive of profit.

The dedicated efforts of bank workers in public sector banks have ensured accessible banking services across the country. Similarly, power sector employees have tirelessly worked to ensure the widespread availability of electricity. These critical infrastructures belong to the people of our country, and no government has the right to transfer them to private companies.

We condemn the Uttar Pradesh government’s recent ban on strikes, which is clearly intended to suppress opposition to privatization. This undemocratic and draconian measure infringes on the fundamental rights of workers.

We demand the immediate withdrawal of the privatization decisions by the Uttar Pradesh and Chandigarh governments. We express our unwavering support for the power sector workers’ ongoing struggle against privatization.

Thanking you,
