Hundreds of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) employees took to the streets on 6 January 2025 demanding the merger of the crisis-hit steel company with Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). Motorcycle riders led the procession and demonstrated the strength and unity of the employees.

The employees raised slogans stressing the urgent need for a merger and called it the only solution to revive VSP’s fortunes and secure their livelihoods. Beyond the merger, a key demand centered on irregular payment of salaries.

Employees expressed deep frustration over the inconsistent and often delayed disbursement of their salaries, affecting their financial stability and well-being. The rally underscored the growing discontent among VSP employees.

The plant is facing significant financial challenges and production disruptions, leaving employees worried about their jobs and the future of VSP. They believe a merger with SAIL, the state-owned giant in the steel sector, will provide the necessary financial and operational support to revive the ailing plant.
