Electricity workers of Maharashtra begin militant 72-hour strike!

Report of Kamgar Ekta Committee (KEC) correspondent

Maharashtra state electricity workers, engineers, and officers started their strike action today, 9th October. United under the banner of Maharashtra Rajya Vidyut Karmachari, Engineers, Officers Kruti Samiti, thousands of them across Maharashtra participated in militant gate meetings.

Their anger against the Government of Maharashtra’s anti-worker and anti-people policies in the power sector was evident in their speeches and slogans, such as “Anti-worker, Anti-consumer restructuring murdabaad,” “Adani Ambani Tata ke hit ke rakshak murdabad,” “Bijlee kshetra ka Nijikaran nahi chalega,” “Apani union apani takat,” “Nahi darenge, nahi darenge, ESMA se nahi darenge,” “Damankari ESMA lagu karanewali sarkaar murdabad!”

Concerned departments of Maharashtra Government have threatened the workers with loss of pay and possible removal from service of freshly joined workers, including contract workers. But open participation of workers in today’s actions show their determination to fight for justice. Organizations like All India Bank Employees Association and Kamgar Ekta Committee have already declared their wholehearted support to this just struggle.
