Railway employees oppose the Railway Board’s target of surrendering over 29,000 posts, demand creation of posts to fill acute shortages

Letter of All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF) to the Chairman and CEO, Railway Board

Despite lakhs of vacancies in the railways, the Railway Board has set a new target of surrendering 29,243 posts. The letter of AIRF points out that the Indian Railways is modernizing and expanding infrastructure, which actually means that more posts should be created. Instead, the Railway Board is further reducing worker capacity. For example, in South Central Railway, a surrender target of 1,866 has been proposed although the zone has 13,564 vacancies! This will lead to overwork and psychological distress among workers, ultimately resulting in highly unsafe conditions for both workers and passenger. Workers of all sectors and passengers must unitedly oppose this huge attack!
