Report of All Assam Electricity Consumers’ Association (AIECA)

An electricity consumers’ convention was held on 8 December 2025 at Bishnu Nirmala Bhawan in Guwahati, called by the All Assam Electricity Consumers’ Association, with the pledge to build a massive statewide movement against the anti-people Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
The convention was chaired by prominent trade union leader Ajit Acharya.
Speakers present at the convention included the organization’s advisor Bimal Das, president of the Association of Engineers Bikramaditya Das, advisor to the Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees, Engineers and Pensioners Pramod Chandra Das, trade union leader Deepak Kumar Saha, and convener of the All Assam Electricity Consumers’ Association Ajay Acharya.
The speakers at the convention said that the Central Government is repeatedly attempting to pass the Electricity (Amendment) Bill in the Parliament in the interest of corporate groups.
They emphasized that if the power sector is privatized, the financial burden on common people will increase and thousands of employees will lose their job. Therefore, it is necessary to build a united mass movement to oppose the draconian bill.
A series of resolutions were also adopted to intensify the movement across all districts of the State.
