On the call of the Power Sector Joint Action Committee, Punjab engineers, employees, officers, pensioners’ organizations joined the fifth zonal-level protest in front of the office of the Chief Engineer, North Jalandhar, on 20 January 2026. They were opposing the sale of the assets of the Power Department and the Electricity Bill 2025. They demanded the establishment of two thermal units of 800 MW in Ropar. Previously, big protests were held in Amritsar on 2 January, Bathinda on 6 January, Patiala on 9 January, and Ludhiana on 15 January.
“Save the Public Power Sector, Save Punjab” was the call of the demonstrators.
