Railway employees in the pointsman category are continuously struggling for the implementation of a uniform rule of promotion after completing 2 years of mandatory service. This rule is applied in some selected zones, but many zones are deprived of it; as a result, they are not only facing financial difficulties but also suffering adverse effects on their career advancement opportunities. Earlier, the promotion period was 3 years, but later it was reduced to 2 years. Despite repeated representations from AIPMA and pointsmen, railway authorities have not yet issued any notification. AIPMA has been consistently raising its voice on this issue, but the railway administration and the Ministry of Railways are paying no attention.
Implementing this rule in selected zones is nothing but a divisive tactic by the authorities. If the railways are a single institution operated by the government, then applying the rule in one zone while depriving another is gross injustice to all. All of us employees across different categories of the railways must unite and collectively struggle against this injustice.
