On May Day, workers in Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand, demanded a ban on contract labour and a minimum wage of Rs 30,000 per month

On International Workers’ Day, 1 May 2026, in a programme organised by Shramik Sanyukta Morcha, Udham Singh Nagar at Rudrapur, five resolutions were unanimously passed on behalf of various unions of Udham Singh Nagar district:

Resolution 1: Immediately repeal the four anti-worker labour codes unanimously and implement pro-worker changes in labour laws.

Resolution 2: Ban contract training or any form of temporary work in jobs of a permanent nature; abolish fixed-term appointments in the list of workers, and restore and enforce the right to permanent appointment in jobs of a permanent nature and equal pay for equal work.

Resolution 3: A minimum wage of at least Rs. 30,000 should be declared and implemented. Variable dearness allowance should be determined based on the retail price index.

Resolution 4: The oppression of workers should be stopped, exploitation and harassment should be stopped, all types of false cases registered against them should be withdrawn and all arrested workers and labour activists should be released immediately and without any conditions.

Resolution 5: Exploitation, harassment, suspension, expulsion, transfer, etc. of workers should be stopped; court orders should be followed; pending disputes should be resolved as quickly as possible and action should be taken against managers who commit illegal acts.
