Report of Uttar Pradesh Vidyut Karmachari Sanyukta Sangharsh Samiti (UPVKSSS)

If the power system cannot be managed, top management should resign immediately;
A power system derailed by harassment cannot be run;
If tenders for privatization of Panki and Jawaharpur Thermal Power Plants are issued, a statewide movement will begin immediately.
Regarding the crumbling power system in the state, a massive and resounding meeting of power employees was organized on 2 May 2026 at the KESCO headquarters in Kanpur under the banner of the Uttar Pradesh Vidyut Karmachari Sanyukta Sangharsh Samiti (Joint Struggle Committee of Electricity Employees, Uttar Pradesh). In the meeting, employees and engineers from KESCO Discom expressed sharp outrage against the top management of the Power Corporation, clearly stating that if the management is incapable of handling the power system, it should immediately step down, taking moral responsibility.
The convener of the Struggle Committee, Shailendra Dubey, announced that if a unilateral tender is issued for outsourcing the operation and maintenance work of Panki and Jawaharpur Thermal Power Plants, then at that very moment, without any further notice, all power employees of all energy corporations in the state will launch a statewide movement, for which the entire responsibility will lie with the management.
The central office-bearers of the Struggle Committee alleged that the management, which has completely failed to improve the power system, is now harassing power employees to hide its failures. They warned that this repressive policy is not only breaking the morale of the employees but is also a conspiracy to completely derail the state’s power system, which will not be allowed to succeed at any cost.
Addressing the meeting, the convener of the Struggle Committee, Shailendra Dubey, said that implementing a vertical system in the Power Corporation, removing contractual employees, cutting regular posts, and conducting impractical experiments—these are all examples of the management’s wrong policies, due to which today, including the capital Lucknow, the power system has collapsed in most districts of the state, and the public is crying out in distress.
Emphasizing, he said that “The only way to improve the power system is to entrust the leadership of the Power Corporation and energy corporations to experienced and qualified engineers, who can ensure uninterrupted power supply in accordance with the instructions of the Honorable Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Ji by taking employees into confidence.”
The Struggle Committee also clarified that despite the movement, power employees are giving top priority to ensuring no inconvenience to consumers. Every complaint is being resolved promptly, but despite this, the management is arbitrarily harassing employees, which is completely unacceptable.
In a warning tone, Shailendra Dubey said that “This movement will continue until the privatization decision is completely withdrawn and every harassing action taken against power employees is revoked.”
This meeting organized at KESCO headquarters was addressed by several prominent office-bearers including Shailendra Dubey, Jitendra Singh Gurjar, Mahendra Rai, P.S. Bajpai, Vijay Tripathi, Gaurav Dixit, Rafiq Ahmad, R.S. Mishra.
At the same time, today protest meetings were also organized at the Govind Nagar headquarters in the Kanpur region and at Panki Thermal Power Plant, where a strong voice was raised against the management.
