Tata Power’s application for parallel distribution licences in Karnataka must be rejected!

Letter of All India Power Engineers federation (AIPEF) to Chief Minister of Karnataka

M/s Tata Power Company Limited has filed five separate petitions before the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) seeking grant of parallel distribution licences across Nineteen districts spanning all five Karnataka’s State Electricity Supply Companies (ESCOMs) jurisdictions in Karnataka. Tata power currently distributes electricity in Mumbai, New Delhi, Ajmer and parts of Odisha.

Similar applications have already been made by Tata Power, Adani Power and some other private companies in a few other states. Everywhere, consumers and workers have opposed these moves.

In Karnataka too, the move has been opposed by the Federation of Karnataka Electricity Board Employees Union which has warned the government of state-wide protests if the application is accepted.

On 27th May 2026, Shri. Shailendra Dubey, Chairman of All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) has written a letter to the Chief Minister of Karnataka urging him to reject Tata Power’s application since it is against the interests of electricity consumers so also the power sector workers of Karnataka.
