Statement by Amchi Mumbai Amchi BEST – Defending people’s right to public transport
The government has proposed to hand over BEST bus depots in Mumbai to builders through long-lease who will build malls, residential buildings, theatres, shopping complexes, etc. Once that is done, there will be no space left to park the fleet of buses and for workshops required for their maintenance. The proposal is yet another step to run down the BEST service with a view to privatise it. The privatisation of public transport in Mumbai is against the interests of residents of Mumbai and must be opposed.
