8600 employees, engineers and officers protested in front of the offices of the electricity companies against the privatization of electricity companies
On behalf of the Maharashtra State Electricity Employees, Engineers and Officers Action Committee on Wednesday 05.08.2026, thousands of electricity workers, engineers and officers staged protests in front of the offices of electricity companies in Koradi, Khaparkheda, Chandrapur, Deepnagar, Ekalhare, Paras and Parli Vaijnath, power generation centers in Nagpur, Gondia, Chandrapur, Akola, Buldhana, Wardha, Amravati, Jalgaon, Dhule, Nandurbar, Nashik, Kalyan, Vashi, Thane, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Sangli, Solapur, Satara, Pune, Aurangabad, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Latur, Nanded, Osmanabad, Hingoli, Vasai, Palghar, and other district and mandal offices.
Since Hon. Devendraji Fadnavis, Chief Minister, promised to hold a meeting on the pending demands in two weeks on 2nd August, the hunger strike of 5th August has been postponed till 17th August 2026.
The electricity workers protested for the following 15 pending demands:
1) To register strong opposition to the possible franchising of Mahavitaran Company. Franchising is a part of privatization, against it.
2) Regarding a mutual agreement on the service conditions and concessions of employees, engineers and officers after the division of Mahavitaran Company.
3) Regarding increasing financial cooperation by the government instead of the IPO process in the three companies.
4) MahaGenco’s seven power generation units, units at Bhusawal, Khaparkheda, Nashik and Chandrapur will not be closed. Demanding to list these.
5) Regarding the immediate adoption of legal alternatives against the order of Adani Power Ltd. 1600 MW of MERC.
6) A memorandum of understanding should be signed to ensure that hydropower projects under Category-2 will not come under the jurisdiction of private companies.
7) Increase the generation area of Mahagenco to make the power generation sector self-sufficient in government ownership.
8) Regarding the announcement of withheld ex-gratia grants/bonuses of employees, engineers and officers of all three companies.
9) Implement a pension scheme for employees, engineers and officers of all three companies.
10) Cancel the reorganization on an experimental basis and improve the system of collective working methods and implement it.
11) Discuss and decide on the issue pending after the salary increase agreement before the anomaly committee.
12) Cancel two days’ salary for 24-hour strike and convert it into minor leave.
13) Cooperate in creating a harmonious environment by stopping all penal and judicial proceedings.
14) B. R 2030 and remove the M. P. R. of permanent machine operators for the operation of newly constructed 333 substations.
15) Discussing the project and staff setup anomalies of Transmission Company T. B. C. B. Project and errors etc.
